Creative fund raising

No bake sales or car washes for us... just some really creative options.

Everyone is welcome to participate!

HOW CAN I HELP?

1) LABOR OF LOVE

List skills you can donate; List jobs you need done. Whatever you would have charged or paid for the services is donated to the building fund.

2) CLEAN SWEEP GARAGE SALE

Hosted at two of our members homes. No clothing. All funds received donted to building fund.

3) SELL A TREASURE

Sponsored by those who enjoy selling in eBay. Whatever is netted is donated to the building fund.

4) SPARE CHANGE

On the 5th Sunday's bring the pocket change to donate.

5) HARVEST OF THANKS

A special offering received at the season of Thanksgiving (November 19).

6) REBATE SUNDAY

Since the federal stimulus check that is in the mail to us is unexpected income, why not pass it along to the building fund?

And a picture of the building

The lastest pictues of the building can be found by going to the home page link noted on this blog then jumping to "Building for Life". But here is a picture update to let you see.

We're planning on studying with a member of our state ABC staff concerning evangelism styles and after the Sunday session we'll tour the building. Pictures to follow.

The Deacons plan a time of visiting a neighboring ABC church to pray at their site, then finishing the day with a retreat.

VBS is in the serious planning stages. The theme planned is FROG (Fully Rely On God).

Since the retreat

- There have been booths present at the Bridal Fair and at the Home and Garden Show (that's the picture of pastor with a balloon)

- There was a Palm Sunday that featured the children processing in and singing.

- There was a Maundy Thursday Service with several stations to stop at and ponder the week (e.g. a crown of thorns, a wooden cross into which nails could be driven, a reminder of the foot washing, a place to be reminded of the prayers in the Garden, and the elements of the Communion) I didn't take pictures of this - it seemed best to have it uninterruped by clicking camera).

- There was an early Resurrection Sunday service (followed by a breakfast and a service at the usualy time).

Retreat

Camp Merrill - Marriage Retreat - March 1

Not everything we do is at the church building, not even in Norfolk. Here are some happy moments at the marriage retreat. For some this was the first visit to our camp. (They used the new conference center that has "motel-like" rooms).
Pictures to follow.

February Notes

Since the celebration of Christmas we have -

+ Held an annual business meeting (Followed by a tour of the inside of the new building with a chance to and written notes beneath the walls)

+ Held a Saturday Envisioning gathering

+ Set a table at the Children's Festival at the Mall

+ Gathered to discuss our worship planning

+ Launched the new boards and committees for the year

And we are working on -

+ Booth at the Bridal Fair

+ Booth at the Home Show

+ A Couples Retreat at camp

And the building is coming right along. (A little over 25% of the needed funding has been raised!)

A small sampling of the children telling us the story

Seth wrote the script asking us to imagine what it would be like if the nativity story experienced a "Touch of Youth"
